Description: The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896 when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped New York City. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.

Rating: TV–MA LSV
Content Labels: Crime investigation in the late 19th century, including prostitution, corruption of authoritative figures, mental illness and internment in prisons and asylums, scientific and medical research.
Violence: Graphic depiction of violence, sexual assault and other types of crime. Medical operations may also offend the sensibilities of some viewers.
Language: Mature. Recurring swearing and slurs typical of the time.
Sexual Themes and Nudity: Graphic depiction of brothels and prostitution of women, men and children. Featuring of nude corpses. Through camera angles and carefully placed items blocking the view, however, no full-frontal nudity is ever shown.
Drugs and Alcohol: Mild reference to the abuse of drugs. Most of the characters are often depicted drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco. One character, in particular, shows the first symptoms of alcoholism.
Crude Humor or Comic Mischief: Swearing about the condition of corpses, homophobic and ethnic slurs by some police officers.

This rating was originally TV–M prior to the announced revisions to the rating system in August 1997 but was changed due to a trademark dispute and in order to remove confusion with the Entertainment Software Rating Board's (ESRB) "M for Mature" rating for video games.
